compared with real msx

i compared nlmsx with my msx2 vg8235 + fmpac and scc

nl msx colors and timing are perfect, speed is a little bit too fast: nlmsx gains 1 second in 1 minute over the real msx when running magical tree

sprite flickering is wrong, maybe this is due to the fact that nlmsx doesnt run smoothly at 60fps .. sprite flickering is correctly emulated in paramsx

playing psg pcm samples is wrong, nlmsx plays them at a too high samplerate (pitch is too high and time is too short), sometimes it plays them correctly and sometimes it wont play them at all:

oh @!#$, bosconian: too high pitched
aleste 2: correct
indian no bouken: no sample plays at all

brmsx has the right pitch, though it's not good in playing samples, the only thing not right in nlmsx about samples is the samplerate. as for the rest, psg emulation is perfect

fmpac emulation is perfect. scc emulation is really good, the only bug i could find was at the intro of nemesis 2. on the msx you'll hear a flanging effect (sounds like a band pass filter).. you won't hear a flanger on nlmsx. brmsx emulates this somewhat right

and now for a little thing in aleste 2; a line flickers at the upper part of the screen, covering the bottom part of the status (score, etc) .. this line should be 1 or 2 pixels down. this is correct in paramsx

one thing i forgot to mention:

when you press a key in basic on the real msx, you should hear a 'pop' .. and some sound effects in games are missing, eg. sound effects in auf wiedersehen monty, which are probably generated the same way as the pop sound.

As far as I know, MSX as a lot of undocumented instructions. I know that BrMSX has ALL these undocumented instructions emulated. The only problem is that BrMSX is entirely coded in assembler language (which is very hard to understand).

Maybe someone could get the latest source from BrMSX and try adapting to C++ language.

Oh, RuMSX does emulates the pop sound when pressing keys, but BrMSX emulation for this particular sound is more "perfect" than any other emulator... ;-)
